The Qatar CV format at a glance
There is no single official CV layout in Qatar. Employers in Doha, Al Khor and Lusail read many applications for each vacancy, often through an applicant tracking system first and a person second. The table below shows what to include and why.
| Section | What to include | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Header | Name, target title, mobile with +974 or your country code, email, city | Use a professional email and a number you answer |
| Photo | Optional passport-style photo | Common in private-sector roles; skip it if the advert says so |
| Residency line | Current location, residence status or sponsorship need, notice period | One factual line, never a visa history |
| Summary | 3 to 4 lines: role, sector, years of experience, strengths | Mirror the job title in the advert |
| Experience | Reverse-chronological, with tools, scope and results | 3 to 5 bullets per role |
| Certifications | Licences and certificates with issuer and year | Keep critical ones on page one |
| Education, skills, languages | Degrees, software, honest language levels | List only what you can discuss in an interview |
This page is the Qatar-specific reference. For the rules that apply across the region, see the Gulf CV format guide, and for neighbouring markets see the UAE CV format and the Saudi CV format.
What makes the Qatar job market different
Qatar has a smaller population than the UAE or Saudi Arabia, but a large share of its workforce is made up of expatriates, and hiring is concentrated in a few sectors: energy and gas, construction and infrastructure, hospitality and tourism, aviation, healthcare, education, banking and logistics. Many employers hire in English and compare candidates from several countries at once, so a CV that is easy to scan and backed by evidence usually does better than one that is long or heavily designed. For context on what employers are asking for, read our guide to the Qatar job market in 2026.
Hiring teams in Qatar often care about three things before anything else: whether you have done the job before, whether your credentials match the role, and whether you can join on the timeline they need. Your CV should answer all three on the first page.
Length and layout
- Fresh graduates: one page.
- Most professionals: one to two pages.
- Senior managers: two pages, with older roles shortened into an “Earlier experience” line.
- Layout: a single-column layout is the safest for portals and screening software. A two-column design can look polished but may parse unevenly. See single-column vs two-column CVs.
- File: a text-based PDF unless the employer asks for Word. Never send a scan or a photo of a printed CV.
How to write your residency and availability line
Recruiters in Qatar need to know quickly whether you can start and what it takes to hire you. Keep it to one factual line. Pick the line that is true for you:
| Your situation | Example line |
|---|---|
| Working in Qatar | Current location: Doha · Qatar residence permit · Notice period: 30 days |
| In Qatar, between jobs | Current location: Doha · Available immediately |
| Outside Qatar | Based in Lahore · Requires employer sponsorship · Available in 4 weeks |
Employment rules in Qatar have been updated in recent years, so do not assume what an employer will or will not require; state your situation plainly and let the employer explain the process. Whatever you write must match your documents, because they are checked at offer and visa stage. Never put your Qatar ID number, passport number or bank details on a CV that you email or upload.
What to show for common Qatar sectors
The same bullet reads very differently depending on the sector. Use this table as a prompt for what recruiters in each area want to see.
| Sector | What to show |
|---|---|
| Energy, oil and gas | Plant or project scale, safety record, standards and codes, shutdown or turnaround experience, relevant licences |
| Construction and infrastructure | Project value, site locations, team size, software such as Primavera or AutoCAD, safety and quality certificates |
| Hospitality and tourism | Hotel or outlet size, guest satisfaction scores, languages, peak-season team size |
| Aviation and airports | Operational certifications, shift experience, customer service scores, languages |
| Healthcare | Professional licence, specialty, years of clinical experience, patient volumes, relevant exams |
| Education | Subjects and age groups taught, curriculum experience, teaching qualification, results achieved |
| Banking and finance | Portfolio size, products handled, compliance knowledge, systems used, professional qualifications |
| Logistics and retail | Volumes handled, on-time delivery rates, systems such as ERP or WMS, team size |
Certificates, licences and attestation
Credentials matter in Qatar, particularly in regulated professions such as healthcare, engineering and education. Put your most relevant licence or certificate in a short Certifications section or directly under your summary, with the issuing body and the year. Do not hide a critical licence on page two in small type.
At the visa stage, employers often ask for attested degree certificates and other documents. You do not need to explain that process on your CV, but make sure the degree names, institution names and dates on your CV match your certificates exactly. A mismatch between a CV and a document can delay an offer. If your profession requires registration with a local regulator, check what that regulator requires before you apply.
Languages and Arabic
English is the working language in many private-sector and multinational workplaces in Qatar. Arabic is a clear advantage for roles that deal with government entities, local clients or public-facing services. List your languages honestly (for example “English: fluent · Arabic: conversational · Urdu: native”). Overstating Arabic fails quickly in a phone screening.
Photo, presentation and screening software
A neutral-background, formal-dress photo is common for private-sector applications in Qatar, and some employers prefer to see none. If you apply through an online portal, use a clean layout with selectable text and standard headings. Our guides on ATS CVs with a photo and whether your CV is ATS-friendly explain how to keep both a photo and a readable file. After you save a draft, run it through the ATS check.

What recruiters in Doha check first
- Does the target title match the vacancy?
- Do the last two roles show relevant tools, scope and results?
- Are the licences or certificates the job needs easy to find?
- Can you join within the time they need, and what does hiring you involve?
- Are dates consistent, and does the file open cleanly on a phone?
Where to apply
Common routes for Qatar jobs include Bayt, LinkedIn, GulfTalent and Naukrigulf, plus the career pages of large employers and recruitment agencies. Use the same core CV on every platform and keep job titles and dates identical to your LinkedIn profile. See our tips on uploading a CV to Bayt. Be careful with any recruiter who asks you to pay a fee for a job offer; genuine employers cover recruitment costs, and you should confirm the vacancy on the company's own site.
Applying from Pakistan or another country
Explain your experience in terms that Qatar HR understands: project size, reporting lines, systems, client types and team size. State your current country, your availability and whether you need sponsorship. If you have worked in the Gulf before, mention it in your summary. Keep a separate local version for domestic roles, as described in our Pakistan CV format guide, and compare pay expectations with the Pakistan vs Gulf salary comparison.
Fresh graduates targeting Qatar
Lead with your degree, internships, projects and tools. Name the function you want, such as analyst, coordinator, junior engineer or trainee, and prove readiness with coursework and practice. A long objective about “seeking a challenging position” wastes the space. Entry-level roles are competitive, so tailor the summary to each vacancy and include any Gulf or international exposure you have.
Common Qatar CV mistakes
- A summary that could belong to any country or job.
- Skill bars and icons instead of real text skills.
- No country code on the phone number.
- A licence or certificate hidden on page two.
- Overstated language levels, especially Arabic.
- Different job titles or dates on the CV and on LinkedIn.
- A scanned or image-only PDF that screening software cannot read.
Templates and tools
Start from the Gulf CV templates, build in the free CV maker, and check the result with the ATS check. A simple single-column design such as Gulf Classic is a safe pick for portal applications, while Executive Header suits senior roles. Pair your CV with a short letter from the cover letter builder when an employer asks for one. If you want a human to tighten your CV, see our CV writing services.
Frequently asked questions
What CV format is used for jobs in Qatar?
A one- or two-page reverse-chronological CV with contact details, a summary, experience with results, education, skills and certifications. PDF is the usual way to send it.
Should a Qatar CV include a photo?
A professional photo is common for many private-sector applications in Qatar, but not every employer asks for one. Follow the job advert, and use a plain background and formal dress if you include one.
How do I show my residency or visa status on a Qatar CV?
Use one short, true line near your contact details, for example “Current location: Doha · Qatar residence permit · Notice period: 30 days” or “Based in Lahore · Available in 4 weeks · Requires employer sponsorship”. Do not put ID or passport numbers on the CV.
Do I need an Arabic CV for Qatar jobs?
Most private-sector and multinational employers work in English, so an English CV is usually enough. Some government-linked or local employers may prefer Arabic, so check the advert. List Arabic in your languages section if you speak it.
Which job portals are used for Qatar jobs?
Common routes include Bayt, LinkedIn, GulfTalent, Naukrigulf and the career pages of large employers and recruitment agencies. Use one core CV everywhere and keep titles and dates consistent with LinkedIn.
How long should a Qatar CV be?
One page for fresh graduates and one to two pages for most professionals. Senior managers can use two pages.
Can I apply for Qatar jobs from Pakistan?
Yes. State your current country, your availability and whether you need employer sponsorship. Keep your CV, certificates and passport details consistent, because documents are checked at offer and visa stage.
